Design and Technology
at Moon Hall School is primarily concerned with the proper development
of craft skills. Pupils learn to appy skills to the solving of a
variety of design problems with confidence and competence, developing
an awareness and understanding of the visual and materials world.
Pupils in years 5 and 6 are taught by the Design and Technology
master at Belmont School.
Skills include designing, making,
materials studies, use of components and mechanisms. Exisiting products
are analysed and evaluated.
Consideration is given to quality, health and safety and specific
vocabulary.

Activities include planning, designing
and making, focused practical tasks, investigating, assembling and
disassembling, evaluating own work and simple products.
Consideration is given to function and appearance in colour, texture,
shape, form and line.
Projects include use of construction
kits, design, analysis, simple model making using mechanisms. Materials
include wood, card, fabrics and plastic kits.
Links are made with Science studies and cross-referenced with Art.
Completed work is displayed in Moon Hall School.
