MHS Music teaching has an inbuilt aim that
our children should enjoy listening and performing whilst developing
an understanding of music. We seek to give them an appropriately
balanced programme of composing, performing, listening and appraising
in relation to the National Curriculum at Key Stages Two and Three.
Full-time children at Moon Hall
receive one lesson of Music each week and we also seek to foster
an awareness of different types of music via the sound system installed
in our building. Musical projects cover a wide range of musical
styles and periods developing an appreciation of our diverse cultural
heritage. We teach music in a way that every child can relate to,
at differentiated levels in an essentially practical course.
We aim for children to gain basic
keyboard/instrumental and vocal skills. We encourage individuals
to learn an instrument if they can and to sit for graded examinations
provided this does not mean them being absent from Literacy or Numeracy
teaching.
