Moon Hall School has four full
time classes.
If you click on the Links below
you will be able to see what we teach in all subjects to each form.
Homework/prep currently takes place
at school during the last period of the day, excepting Wednesday
(when many pupils are involved in matches). This is an across-site
policy which was introduced on a trial basis in 2006 and has proved
very successful. At MHS we treat the period as a plenary and the
task set will usually be based on the day’s lessons. Pupils
are required to work independently under the supervision of their
Form Teacher but may, if necessary, consult the teacher who has
set the task.
Parents are encouraged to hear their children
read aloud at home and typing practice should be done, but it is
unlikely that pupils will need to bring further work home.
English preparation takes precedence over all
other subjects, and some aspect of English is set every evening.
A maths task will also be set.
Part-time pupils, based in Belmont, also
do preparation under the supervision of their Form Teachers. They
may have to do further work at home at the discretion of their teachers,
if the standard of the prep is not satisfactory. They also will
have weekend preparation. Those taking Common Entrance must expect
to have additional preparation at home from time to time.
In addition, we also have registered classes,
based in Belmont.
We are entirely responsible for the pupils in
our Year 6 class whose form teacher is a Belmont member of staff.
She has considerable experience in receiving these children after
transfer away from full-time provision with us.
In Years 7 and 8, there are also children who
remain registered with MHS
and return to us for varying levels of input.
Belmont-based pupils registered with MHS can receive
up to 16 periods of ongoing help per week - all their English, Maths
and Typing. We are able to prepare pupils, where appropriate, for
Common Entrance.
